Hello all, Hope you are all well. I am an 18 year old posting on behalf of his grandparents who are looking to sell there Austin mini cooper (E reg). As my grandparents are getting older they are looking to move out of there current flat and move into a new one but first need to try and get rid off this mini, my grandparents aren't the best with technology hence why I am posting on behalf of them and why they have also struggled to try and sell this car. The car is in a dark green colour with a white roof and rally headlights at the front, has white stripes on the bonnet, it has around 10,000 miles on it and is located near Leeds in West Yorkshire.

To be completely upfront the car is not in a great condition as the battery wont start therefore we cant tell just how bad of a condition it is in and will more likely appeal to someone who is looking for a restoration project to bring this classic mini back to life. Any help or guidance regarding garages or who people may be Interested in the car, the price the car should be sold at or

general guidance around the car would be much appreciated.

please feel free to respond to this post with any help at all as it would be highly appreciated.

Thank you very much for your time to read this post !!

If it is a genuine Austin Mini Cooper (E reg) it could be a highly sought after classic car even as a restoration project. If you can add some photos to this thread it will help forum members give you more accurate help and guidance on exactly what you have and what would be a sensible price in the current market.

Can you confirm what year it is, as 10,000 miles is a very low mileage?

(If the E reg is a suffix it would be1967 and could be a Mk1 Mini Cooper but if it is a prefix E reg is 1987/88).

If it is a 1967 Mini you could also ask for guidance on the Mk1 Forum which specialises in identifying and valuing the earlier Mk1 Minis.

Hi,

As you are in Yorkshire perhaps contacting Mathewsons might be an idea.

They should be able to give you an indication of value.

If you put it up for auction they would collect it.

If it is a rare car it should gain a lot of interest.

Your problem of arranging viewings and with tyre kickers turning up will be eliminated.

if you like you could take a bunch of pictures and use https://imgbb.com/ to upload them, then share the links here (don't register or pay, just use it free)

engine-running or not may not affect the value too greatly if selling as a project (mine didn't even have a carb and the head was in the boot lol) people are more likely to be interested in how rotten it is or is not..  but you could put it in neutral and see if you can turn the pulleys by hand or even rock back and forth slightly

lift up the carpets inside and in the boot, look particularly in any corners or where two panels join at the edges, carefully lift up the rubber doorway edge strips and look underneath, all the metal work down under the pedals (also look upwards from underneath) basically hunt for rust and take pictures everywhere you find it

main floor and/or boot floor are both quite big jobs, smaller / outer panels less so, all that affects value but also people's interest

all just general points because obviously without seeing it no-one knows

Thanks for clarifying the actual year.

1987/88 means it will not be a Mk1/Mk2/Mk3 Austin Mini Cooper (unless re-registered on a later reg plate maybe as an import) as they were only produced in the UK between 1961 to 1971. The Italian Innocenti Mini Cooper was available until 1975.

The later Rover Mini Cooper range was re-introduced in 1990 to 2000.

1987/88 would make your grandparents Mini a Mk5 which were built between 1984–1990.

The colour scheme green with white roof and bonnet stripes, suggests it might be a 1988 Mini 'Racing Green' which was a limited 'Special Edition' Mini that appeared just before Rover re-launched the Mini Cooper in 1990.

See a '1989 Mini Racing Green' for details on spec and with the sold auction price in link below:-
