13" Superlite Wheel Nut Advice

Best Answer orac69 , Today, 11:43 AM

I think Ive found the answer - In case anyone in future is looking - no, the NAM705MS acorn nuts with the floating washer are NOT correct for after market Superlite alloys.  They are for the original Rover wheels.   I have purchased replacements from fleabay - the ones without the floating washer.

Hi guys,

A little advice please.   The PO of my 95 spi put 13" superlite wheels on it. I noticed a while back that the nuts were a bit of a mish-mash.  Some were longer, some were shorter, some had gone rusty, and some were painted black and rounded - the paint had all chipped off.

I recently had all 4 tyres replaced, and am about to get the tracking sorted, and so while the wheels were off in the tyre shop I thought it would be a good idea to get a fresh set of decent nuts.

Attached is a pic showing 1 of the nuts I took off.

I bought a couple of CN2 nuts from minispares, but they are clearly wrong, so I bought some NAM705MS to try - they fit, but there is a tapered collar which when the nut is done up tight it still spins - so I dont think that can be right either.

Ive searhced minispares but cant seem to find the right ones.   Could someone kindly point me in the right direction please - I dont need lockable.    Thanks!

Is the rotating part to fit alloys without steel inserts? The smaller fixed taper would allow a steel wheel to be used as a spare. Ebay etc seems to be full of nuts like the original, possibly originally intended for something American (golf cart???). If they fit they should be ok.

I dont know to be honest - Minspares description simply says "Wheel Nut for Genuine Rover Cooper 8 spoke and MPI Sportspack wheel"

Minispares seems to carry absolutely everything, so just surprised im struggling to find the right thing rather than go to fleabay.

Ive just seen a description of the NAM705MS nuts on ebay which says they have a "floating washer"..   Never heard of that term - does that mean the washer is designed to spin and the nuts will be fine?

As alloy's softer than steel something will be needed to stop the nuts rubbing it away as they're tightened. the washer will spin on the nut.but not the washer. Your wheels will have a steel insert pressed in (hopefully).  Note there are 2 different shapes of steel nut seat, the other one was mostly used with 10 inch steelies so it's unlikely if the wheels aren't that old, but it'd be worth a look to be sure.

I've just replied to your email, you need CN5 not NAM9075.
