Hi all

Quick intro, although I have been know to like a chat!

I learned to drive in 1982 in my mums Mk1 850cc traveller

My first car at 18yrs old was an MG midget with round arches, so 1275 engine!

Now I have bought a 1970 mini 1000 Mk2  (LHD)

This car was bought by a young Englishman from the S France and had a total refurb.

It is not perfect, but seems to have avoided rust and has had so much replaced, it was hard to turn down!

My wife drove a mini from London to Istanbul and back again in the 90's and so she is also a big fan

Once I have the engine running too hot issue, I may look at replacing the single H4 SU with twin H2 SU's

IF that will give some more performance - comments appreciated (based on other engine components - Cam, etc)

History below and pics attached, will tell more about the car than can ever do.

Thanks in advance of any help given by members, best regards, Ben

From the previous owner, who did the refurb:

Imported from the very South of France she lived outside in a vine yard and was used as a run around then came to sit in 1996. Once retrieved in 2019 we could not believe how thick the paint was, due to the sun cars where repainted yearly only to find a perfect body shell once in complete bare metal. Light corrosion in the boot well and battery box was found so it was replaced using heritage panels. Original brazing around the scuttle and wing areas was still visible. This is not a new heritage body shell it is a genuine 1960’s article, built using a period specification to help keep up with modern traffic and improve usability.

The original chassis number reveals it was built in Belgium for the European market. Over the years, there were more than twenty assembly/ manufacturing plants for Minis around the world. In the early years of the Mini, the majority of Minis that came to life outside of the UK. Everything the assembly plant needed was shipped as a kit from England and assembled into the final product in Belgium. When importing it was decided to keep the mini LHD to keep with it’s heritage
