Evening all, I’m halfway through a HS2 to 4 upgrade (Stage 1) for my LHD 1969 998 Morris-Mini. Having mounted the new lcb, manifold etc I’ve got the carb in situ but the air filter is millimetres from the binnacle cutout and to be honest I’m scratching my head. The original HS2 filter sat on top of the carb - which would be ideal. Is this a common issue or do I need to fit the carb elbow and does anyone have a air filter on top of their hS4? I’m pulling what little hair remains out, and I’ve already had to reroute the fuel pipe, brake and clutch feeds to accommodate the unit. It’s in, the mechanism is free and it works but the air filter really needs to go on top. Any ideas? Cheers Richard

Use standard housing. They are way better than many of the pancake filters.

just fit a suitable element.

I had the following parts on my 1964 Mk1 with a 998 and there was plenty of room:
Minispares stage 1 kit
HS4 carb
KN offset cone filter



Have you got the correct cone filter with the holes offset like this?

As said above, fit a standard factory plastic HS4 air filter housing (with a K&N filter inside) and refit the elbow on your HS4, also it will be much quieter inside the car without all the induction roar behind the dash from most aftermarket filters.
