Building a set of double HS4 i found in my boxes. Not able to find my Vizard bible so hope someone here can get me a starting point which needles and springs a should use to get running. Not looking to get out the last HP but a good fast street drivability. Engine spec is 1293 PRE A+, Longman stage 3 head (i think it was called so when i bought it 1990, or was it "full race"?), MS EVO 001 cam, LCB with homemade 2" exhaust. Intake is a homemade modification of an old Cooper 2xHS2 intake. K&N panncake filters.

The Aus police spec Cooper S used CP4 fixed needles
Vizard suggests the following fixed needles for 1275 in increasing level of power. All with a blue spring, but BG could try blue or red

You could try starting with AAA needles and go from there.

Are the fixed needle HS4 or do they use bias sprung needles?

+1 for CP4 needles and blue springs. I've used them in H4s many years ago on a 1293 with a 948 cam and presently use them in HIF4s on a 1293 MG metro engine. They do have to be modified to bias type for HIF4s.
