Lower Ball Joint To Control Arm Fitment

Best Answer Rubbershorts , Today, 12:52 PM

This is ringing a bell. I think I did similar. Have the lower arms been taken off the car? Is it possible you have put them back on the wrong sides. I seem to remember the hole maybe being tapered.  Daz.

Hello all,

I am trying to re-fit my front hubs. The ball joints are new (mini spares), the control arms etc are the origionals just with a bit of paint.

I can't get the lower ball joint all the way into the lower control arm. Certainly not enough to get the spring washer and nut on the other end. Has anyone else had this issue, it is the same on both sides.

The top ones go in fine.

I have tried all sorts of combinations (tie rods connected and not, upper ball joint in, jack below the arm). Note the engine is not in.

The picture below shows the gap between the arm and the rubber boot on the ball joint.

My latest thinking is to try and file out the hole on the control arm to make it slightly bigger. Or try and grid off some of the ball joint to make it thinner. But I have resorted to here before I try those measures.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

Dave

Ahhhhhhh

You are spot on, they are sided.

So annoying, back to stripping bits instead of re-building......we live and learn.

Thanks,

Dave
