Hi,  I am currently trying to complete the build of a modified road Mini for use on track days and sprints.  

 

 Currently installing an aluminium plate over the parcel shelf to block up the enlarged (by a previous owner) speaker holes.

However the main problem is how to block the  gaps between the inner wing and boot wall on both sides.  The gaps look a bit too wide to just use fireproof RTV sealant.

 

Any useful advice which will be passed by scrutineers would be very much appreciated.

I made a cardboard template to follow the curve of the inside rear quarter panel, transferred to steel plate and welded them to the rear seat back.
Any small remaining gaps use appropriate sealer. 👍

Read the Blue book tech sections, aluminium tape and intumescent sealer is generally enough.

I use a fibreglass paste and have never had any scrutineering issues. Fit it, rub it down and paint it. Works fine.

 

I know some people fit one or two electric petrol pumps inside the boot. With the battery and battery leads inside the boot area, I have never understood how this is acceptable to scrutineers. Imagine a rear impact where a fuel line from the pumps is fractured, there you are pumping petrol into the boot from a high-output competition pump into the area of the battery with all the electrical wires there as well!
