Hey, all. Still new to the site and apparently limited to one post a day. Just trying to follow protocol, build trust, etc. until I can participate more fully. I notice I can't edit my profile much, I'm not sure if that's a user restriction or if that's something on the forum. Anyhow...
I was stationed at RAF Croughton from 2000-2003 and my roommate had a classic Mini. He also showed me The Italian Job and I was pretty instantly hooked on these things. But the U.S. has some protectionist laws that forbid the import of vehicles unless they're 25 years old and I wasn't able to take it home with me (he sold it to me when he moved to another station). So now here I am, almost 25 years later and every classic Mini is legal for me to bring back home, should I ever return. My wife and kids think I'm nuts, but I went seeking out a good Mini almost first thing and bought one before we were even in our house!
So now I've got a really clean '92 Mini City. 998cc and an automatic transmission. I sought out an auto specifically so my wife could drive it in a pinch, and then the moment she saw it didn't have power steering she announced her refusal to ever drive it. /facepalm Oh well. I'm pretty sure this thing only has a 3-speed transmission, so the RPMs are just screaming at 70 mph on an A road; I find myself cruising closer to 60 as a result. I suspect the rubber cones need replacing and I'd like to replace the points/distributor with an electronic ignition but I have a lot to learn about that. I'd also like to get some proper wheels, instead of the hubcaps it currently has.
Anyhow, I don't know how active the forum is, but I'm happy to be here!
