Hi fellas, today during an oil change I discovered a not so fun surprise, my sum plug seems to identify as a sparkplug! this piece of metal was on it. seems like a piece of a sort of ring. any ideas? how bad is this?

thanks for any advice.

I would think that the gradual curve of that item would be to curvy to be a spark plug contact point.

From the non sized pic I suspect a crush washer or similar. Try looking at the rocker cover first and be systematic.

Get an exposed diagram of the engine and do what you can.

A broken spring washer. A few should be in the gearbox.

It looks to have a deliberate ridge around the larger diameter that I don't think a spring washer would  have. It'd be worth patterning up with some washers though, see if it matches a 5/16 bolt hole & the thickness will be a hint.

No other symptoms? Suppose it's not impossible it could have been dropped in, but there aren't be many opportunities that spring to mind. -dizzy out or timing chain swap???

If it's playing on your mind, both could be potential spots to insert a borescope, but the speedo drive cover would give the best view.

Are there spring washers inside the engine / gearbox ? I can't think of any and I've just rebuilt mine.
