Im going to have a go at port matching the inlet manifold at some stage and was wondering what is the best way to transfer the "footprint" of the manifold on to the head?
Any ideas?

Ill be dowelling the inlet to the head without a gasket, matching the ports then matching the gasket after.
My last Slark head was done like this.

I thought that was what engineering blue was for?   Anecdotally only though, never done anything like it myself

or is that just to check flatness of the surfaces

I'd go with the gasket, real or improvised. You'll want to transfer one outline flip it as a mirror image to transfer the other part's outline. Both relative to a shared reference, like dowels.

Having a step, from smaller to larger diameter can be beneficial in resisting flow reversal.

Put gasket on head. Mark it out. Remove. Add tape to the gasket refit. Fold tape onto the inlet. Remove inlet and gasket. Mark out the gasket on manifold.

now read up on the reverse flow and steps between manifolds and heads. More info tends to be for the exhaust. Hence many of maniflow exhaust manifolds now have it added.

but mark out and then think.  You can’t get transfer dowels to mark the position from the head to the softer manifold. Or you could make your own.
