I think Stu and Aridgerunner need to come up to the North of England, around Bradford, then we'll have a discussion about security

 

Semi-jest. Anyway, cheers guys, first one to do it should definitely post pics and info, but does anyone know where I can get decent rubber gaskets for the lights

OK, you shamed me into it. I removed the rear bumper because it's one of those that provides extra security in that you can't remove the lenses unless you remove the bumper. I the removed the lenses and then the housing. I took pictures along the way. Reassembly is the reverse of assembly. It all took about 30 minutes. The hard part will be posting the pictures.

Those overriders obscuring your reflectors is a little bit naughty. You'd probably have to stick some on the boot lid to be legal, 14 inches is the height requirement.

Over here in my part of the USA the officials don't care about stuff like that. The car is registered as an antique and no inspection by the officials is required. That said, if I ever got a good deal on a regular bumper without those over riders I would make the change.

I didn't notice your location 

 

Since I mentioned it, there's also an upper limit of 3ft, so if you needed reflectors they might just squeeze in the bottom of the rear screen. It's unlikely it'd matter over here either: until it does, such as your insurer trying to wriggle out of paying up.

Insurance. That's another beautiful thing. I'm insured with a company called Hagerty. And they specialize in antique auto insurance. There best policy is called stated value. The car owner tells them how much they value the car. Then the car is covered for that amount if Hagerty agrees on the value. It is 100% coverage. No deductible. For example, my brother broke his MGA windshield! He told them what he did and gave them the replacement cost. They sent him a check, no questions asked.
