Hi every one i have just won a restored 1992 Rover Mini. and i am looking forward to driving it this week end. and looking forward to learning more about it

Congrats. Someone else on here won a Mini last year and has spent a lot of time and money correcting it.

Not saying yours will be like that, and depending on your experience with Minis, and also when the last MOT was, I would have it properly checked over

With cars from UK Minis, it is evident that they aren't perfect, but considering the price, that’s probably acceptable; at the very least, they should make a good basis for restoration.

well a 1273 (I thought it was1275?) lump is worth the ticket price in itself even it needs a rebuild lol

It really doesn't look bad. The first things I'd replace are the headlights, the trunk lining, and the rear parcel shelf behind the seats—which should have carpet, not wood.

Hi All thanks for your words i got the car today and as some said it was a surprise how going back to basic feels heavy steering. less affective brakes. but after a few trips it started to make me smile.

 

I did find some issues ie fitted radio was not fitted and their were no speakers bits of electrical are a little suspect. also trying to get my head around why my rad does not have a temp switch at the bottom of the core to operate the auxiliary fan. it has a broken roof arial which looks like i will need to remove the roof lining to gain access, and also the screen vents do not vent the fan motor is working, when i move the slider to screen it does move the flap but nothing comes out of the  top vents 

 

I should not grumble i did win it after all but did not expect the have to get the tools out also i cannot post any pictures to show any one

As have been going through my new Classic mini i start to notice stuff that is not quite working as it should, like the vents on the screen do not work even though i move the slider to screen and the fan works no/my Mini has the water bottle or very little  air goes to the screen and seema to poor out of the side holes in. to the cabin, I can see the flap move but a lot of air blows past and i can feel some edging on the flap.

 

My screen washer fluid bottle is in the boot. and my cooling radiator does not have a thermostat on the bottom but the auxiliary fan has all the wire connected and i tested it with 12v supply and it works. so how does it trigger and when will it trigger

Congratulations on the win. Regarding the rad. Has the previous owner fitted an auxiliary switch inside the car? If not, you could easily fit one. It's not ideal but at least you would have a way of starting the second fan, and it's a lot cheaper than buying the correct radiator. Daz.

Sounds like the screen vents are functioning normally 

 

...they've always been a bit dire & adding multiple layers of dash trim didn't help. At least the screen's well within reach with a chammy.

 

           ....... if you want to have a go you'll likely have to strip out the dash so you can get to the vent ducts to tape them up and seal them to the dash rail. - They likely do work (a bit) already, through osmosis.

 

Play spot the temp sender, re the fan. If there's more than one, it could include a fan controller in an imaginative place. The stock locations are below the thermostat in the head or in the thermostat housing(s). As Rubbershorts says the simplest work around is a manual switch, if somebody's replaced the radiator for one that's lacking.

Thank all It has been a big learning curve with this car, very heave steering, stereo but no speakers, and seating position is very tight for me . i have removed the aftermarket brackets  that raised the seat hight and moved the seat back on the std bracket. i have checked the screen vents and some air movement does happen but very poor.

Hi all had a little look around my 1992 mini cooper and as one member mentioned some time the cars you win are not  always perfect. this is one of them so far rusty water in the rad, the nut used to adjust alternator belt tightness was missing and the bolt was about to fall out. the oil level on the dip stick is below the min mark.  it dose make you wonder about the last service and what was done. I did not expect to have to get the tools out so soon.

I’m sure it’s in their T & Cs, but it’s a shame they are giving away such badly maintained vehicles.
