Hi all,
after rebuild of 1275 A+ engine, I need now to time the new dizzy. Camshaft is a Evo002 and dizzy is an aftermarket recurved one ( 8 deg at 1000RPM ).
Problem is ... I don´t have the strobe light :)
Is there a way to start the engine and drive it to some garage for tuning there ? In a way that is safe for the engine ?
I was reading the artice from Keith Calver ( https://www.calverst...-ignition-kits/
) regarding the install instructions for his distributors and I got curious about this particular step :
´rotate crankshaft anti-clockwise (from front/coolant pump end) around 3/8”/10,0mm. Rotate distributor so the blade of the trigger is in the centre of the module. This will be around 8 to 10 degrees of static advance and will allow the engine to start and run so a strobe light can be used to set the correct/required ignition timing.
I guess that 1000 RPM will not be much higher than the typical idle RPM for my setup, right ? so, I think that by applying the above step I would be leaving the dizzy close to the required timing, allowing me to drive the car and take it to some garage for a more accurate tuning. Am I thinking correctly ?
Also, can I buy a Strobe light and do this at home ? Could you advise on something I could by on Amazon ? Do I need any other special tools for this ? Car does not have a rev counter, but I will install one and I was thinking to use it as the reference for RPM, in case I do it at home.
Many thanks guys,
I look very much forward to hearing see this engine running :)
