Hi all,

 

My original engine mounts seem ok, not split or anything but are rather old. 

 

Do I keep them or should I replace with new ones ? 

 

If replace, what are the new ones like ? are there ones that should be avoided ?

I wouldn’t worry about them unless you’re experiencing any problems because of them. That said, I’d go ahead and do it if the engine is out.

Based on personal experience I would absolutely avoid the new ones with the captured nuts. I couldn't get them to line up with the holes. I bought a set of new old stock from a small local supplier and they fit perfect.

If you do swap them make sure they are the more expensive 'Genuine' Minispares mounts (see link below for details).

Note they cost £9.12 each compared to the cheaper 'copies' that Minispares also still sell for £3.36

As said above on no account fit the so called ENGINE MOUNTING WITH 'EASY FIT' CAPTIVE THREADS where they often don't line up with holes in the subframe, or the captive threads later come loose and just rotate, making future removal of bolts a very difficult job!

Hard to suggest which way to go. I do replace them as a matter of course. I've found the Mini Spares own to be quite OK.
