fit a full distributor cover and grease up the connectors under the front slam panel and behind the air filter. then just usual maintenance and rust checks every spring. we ran only classic minis for years and pretty reliable when you keep up with the maintenance, greasing etc. and cavity wax and underseal every couple of years we got in the habit of checking where we were parked for oil drips when pulling out (usually timing chain and gear selector) and if you do break down add that bit to a breakdown kit in the boot.
People forget these were everyday cars you just had to keep up to them unlike modern boxes with sensors all over them, and classics do not benefit from not being used.
