Rust is one of those things that can catch you out on an older Mini. the front wings are worth checking, especially around the seams where they meet the scuttle and front panel. bubbling paint or a small crack in the seam sealer can be an early sign that moisture has got in.

It is also worth checking around the headlamp bowls and the edges of the wheel arches, as dirt can collect there and stay damp. if you spot anything suspicious, clean the area and have a closer look rather than just painting over it.

A quick check now and then can help you catch problems before they turn into a bigger welding job. always better to find a small patch of rust than discover it has spread when the car goes in for other work.
