I have a 97 rover mini challenger. Im replacing the manifold, I have purchased a new 3-branch maniflow system correct for my model mini, and I have removed the old manifold. Attached to the manifold is some electrical gizmo, I can only guess is some form of temperature sensor. It has about 5 wires coming out of it about 1 foot of cable, then a connector that connects to the loom. We have found it IMPOSSIBLE to free this from the manifold. It is bolted in but due to I guess 9 years of constant expanding and contracting its welded in. and wont come undone!.
My question is, If we was just to put a bolt in as a plug in the new manifold, and do without this sender in the new manifold setup does it make any difference? what does it do?
In great expectation for some ideas....

hi mate. there's a lambda sensor in the exhaust manifold/downpipe assembly, with is one of the sensors used by the ecu to tell it how the engine is running. it tells it the mixture of the exhaust gases, and as such the ecu can adjust the fuelling going in to the engine. you need to keep it i'm afraid. new ones aren't expensive.
