It's going to be welded in tomorrow, just got to open the hole out a little more on the passenger side!
It might mean that I miss Stoneleigh, but I want the engine in this weekend, so that means some serious grafting! The engine bay should be primered by tomorrow night hopefully, ready to paint on Saturday morning!
While paint is drying in the engine bay I am gonna strip the subby down and get some fresh paint on there too I think. Then plonk the engine into the frame and then lift the shell back over the top (probably on Monday). Then it's time for routing pipes, cables, looms etc.
Gonna be a fun weekend!

OK then, soooo, I have made a new Weber box and it's a much better job than the last one (made it at work instead of at home). I've made it 12" wide and 8" high, it'll sit just off centre this time!

That's as far as I got. Had to book a holiday to keep the missus happy this weekend! This also meant going out shopping for more shoes and clothes!
This weekend I am doing the Tanat Valley Run (which is a mahoosive local pub crawl) even though I am not supposed to br drinking at all at the moment. So it looks like I'll be doing no further work til the night times next week now!

Basically:
fit engine and subby back together,
fit above into car,
sort out wiring for megajolt,
fit seats back in,
paint doors,
sort out 3 clock dash wiring (loom already nearly finished),
then it's ready to drive again.

I am planning to do some work on her tonight, but I'll probably end up having to do something else instead!

Rubbed down the timing cover and sprayed it because it was looking shabby
Lifted the old engine out of the subframe
Stripped most of the sealer off the subframe that someone has painted on (about 1/4" thick)
Cleaned up the subby
The front subframe is in really good condition actually, it's got a little bit of surface rust, but it does look to have been replaced at some point. I dunno what the sealer was that was on it, but it was bitumen based I think, so I scraped it off where I could get to and then brushed it down with some turps to try and clean it up a little. Next thing is to attack it with a rotary wire brush bit in the drill and get it primered and painted. I am just going to paint it satin black, no fancy colours for me.
Soooo, just need to get the subframe to the stage where it's painted, then I can start swapping all of the suspension bits over

need to know if the head is deffo MG Metro, the ports look good (very coked up) and I can stick me finger in and touch the top of the valves, so it's deffo got bigger ports than some of the other 12G940s that I have.
Need to whip it off and measure the valve sizes
Old engine sat next to new one!

Old engine

Dirty great lump!

Front subby:
Now then, the tie bars look new, but they have two washers on the outer face rather than one (I suspect because of worn bushes???), the bottom arms look new, so I am gonna measure them to see if they are standard length or -ve camber ones. But it's having the adjustable HD tie-bars and -1.5 deg. camber arms off the other subframe that I have spare fitted to it, so tese will just be spares.
