Hi,

The auto box on our mini is begining to make a fairly lound clunking sound when going in to reverse from neutral - almost as if the gearbox is taking up some slack in the cogs and stuff. Seems to occur more when warm than cold so I'm thinking oil more than wear although the oil is changed every 3000 miles or 4 months or so which ever comes soonest.

Everything else seems fine with no other noises etc.

Wondered if any gearbox wizards could help.

Cheers

Dave

hmm, not a big one on auto boxes but from what i remember about building bus ones they clunk more when the tickover is high and the oil pressure is getting a little low!!! also the clunk could be the exhaust rattling or another component, maybe the engine steady bar at the top!!!

Get someone to watch the engine while you put it into reverse. See how much it moves. Chances are it's the steady bar bushes. The auto Minis get through them quicker than the manual ones.
