How Do,

Fitted a stage 1, problems.

Took it down to have timing checked and mixture adjusted, done.

Advance diaphram nackered, replaced.

Mixture altered again, sounds fine, revs perfectly OK.

BUT...

Driving it tonight and im tootling around in 3rd doing about 35, i brake for muppet infront put toe back down gently at bout 25mph andddd FLAT SPOT.

It does it all over the board, where it should just sorta pick up it dies and needs a very light foot (lifting off a bit at a time) to make it do what its told and go again. This is very enoying especially when your trying to pull out of junctions and round people and what-not.

Im really naffed off at the mo cus this stage1 has caused note but problems.

Question 1

Which way do you turn the dizzy to make the timing advance, looking from the front of the motor, clockwise or anti??

Question 2

If im stood on the drivers side of the bonnet and stick my hand under the carb which way makes it leaner or richer? Anticlockwise (towards to bulk) or tuther way?

Question 3

Has anyone got any suggestions for me to sort this bleedin thing out, its a hell of a lot easier for me to fiddle then drive around then fiddle some more!? And please dont say rolling road, well not yet. And how much does it normally cost for a session in your experience?

Cheers,

Nate

jsut to get you about you cud try advancing the timing(turn dizzy anticlockwise) til you hear pinking then back it off a little!! just make sure you mark where you start tho so u can go back to the beginning if you need to!!

Question 1: The dizzy runs anti-clockwise so turning the body clockwise will advance the timing.

Question 2: I presume you are talking about a HIF carb with a mixture adjusting screw. To richen the mixture it needs to be screwed in - clockwise from where you are stood.

Finally as already said a rolling road is the ONLY way to set a car up properly for all driving conditions and solve those flat spots !!

I had mine done 3 1/2 years ago and have not had to touch the timing or mixture since and its still perfect !!!! It's worth the investment !

I'd find someone with a strobe and do the ig timing yourself.

I had it done at a garage and they totally balls'd it up. Someone lent me a strobe and she is running perfectly now.

I run a 1990 998cc City E

My carb is a HS2 or 4 im not quite sure of the difference (ive had a look on minisport but mine looks sod all like any of them, its defo not a HIF), but the mixture adjustment is on the base of the carb and is a big 'ol nut lookin thingy.

Looks like its down the to the local dyno tune then.

Cheers,

Nate.

A answer to question 2 would be cool thanks.

Consulted the book of armaments, and it says i have a HS4.

Scared the living daylights outa myself earlier, went out for a tinker with the card and got the butterfly stuck fully open with the engine running.

I tell you now there was no falt spot when that happened but the arse fell out of my trousers.

Nate

Oh yea, P.S. does anyone know of a good mini rolling road in the nottingham area, I live in Bulwell and the nearest general dyno is Basford but they are full untill newyear.

In answer to question 2 if your looking down on the top of the carb then you need to turn the nut clockwise to richen the mixture.

And I would also reccommend Peter Burgess !!!! :bah:
