melted wire

hi, there is a red wire what goes into a connector which connect to the back of my 3 dial cluster, well it seems to have melted, how could this be caused and what wire is it for, its melted all onto the connector.

dont know about whats caused it but it shud be the power supply to the rev counter!! check to see if anything has rubbed thru to it!! if it contacts the shell directly that could do it!!
if its sitting unused and your rev counter is powered by a green/orange wire then it coule have dangled free and touched something but it shouldnt be needed!!
can u show a pitcure of it?

actually looks more like its the sideligts supply to the clocks!! as for why its melted!! stil psuspecting a bad earth or broken wire touching bare metal somwhere!!

Check where the wires pass through the bulkhead. Sometimes they can chafe on the air-filter housing and cause a short.
