right, i shall start from the beginning. i changed my fan belt on monday,as the old one was frayed and really old. had to undo the top rad mounts to get the old belt off. fitted the new belt, put the top rad mount back on. ever since the temp guage has been fine for bout 20 mins, then gets really really hot, but the fan heater inside the car is blowing out cold air????
undo the the rad cap - no water?. water spray all over the bonnet, and every where inside the engine bay. the thermosat houseing is boiling hot, but the rad isnt the warm???
so i took my rad out today checked it all - fine (has onlt been in for about 2 months) checked all the hoses - fine - flushed the system, and put it all back together.
went out fro a test drive - fine for about 20 mins - boiling hot again - exactallyy the same thing no water in rad - water spray in engine bay - thermosat housing boiling hot? filled it up with water, and there was a little stream on the road? but still rad was full?
strange or what? any ideas?
Thanks

well for starters you ned dto be putting coolant in there as well as water even if it's throwing it out.
Thermostat could be stuck closed, hence water isn't being let through to the rad to cool, pressure gets too high,
splurge...........

the water pump seal could have gone, check for a drip from around the water pump!! only a slow one but once at presure is more of a trickle!!

morning mate. if it's the water pump, you just replace the whole pump, i aint heard of anywhere selling the seals to go inside.

well they've now been replaced by a stainless steel stud kit from Minispares - a bit pricey at £18 but very sexy and no more probs with snapped studs (fingers very tightly crossed)!!!
