If you're not old enough to drive on the road yet, your cheapest and easiest way to get into the motorsport is autograss. You can pick up a car and trailer for about £500. You'll obviously need helmet, overalls and other safety equipment and of course a licence. Licence is about £50 for the year. NASA website here !

As already said, you'll be lucky to get into miglia racing unless you have a huge budget and at least some experience of competitive racing under your belt.

unfortunatly racing is very expensive, and only really for the real enthusiasts (sp)

the best thing you can proberly do is do a couple of trackdays when you pass your test, that way you will get a feel for what its like.

then you can decide weather to spend everypenny of you money, or do a trackday everynow and then.

Just another point, try and do a type where there are tight rules for the cars, other wise unless your earning serious money, there will alwyas be someone who has spent more money on there car and is faster.

You'll get that in any form of motorsport, even the 'budget' motorsports. When I did the ladies national championship a few years ago there were under 16's out in the junior competition driving cars which had a brand new heritage shell and freshly built engines etc. They were all within the required 'spec' so completely legal.

Trackdays are completely different to motorsport.

i was refering more to engine modifications, some that are vertually unlimited, compared to 998s that have to be standard, no prizes for guessing which is going to be more expensive.

I didnt say they were the same, i said it will give him an idea, his obvisly never driven a car on a track before, and might find its not what he expected.

autograss if anything really, you cant drive yet, and so need a fair few years of good experience driving i would say to be good to compete.

Hillclimbing id say was fairly expensive, and then miglias....may aswell forget, need ******* loads of cash looking at the cars.

You need to start in competition as young as you can, build up a rep and then look for sponsors as you climb the "ranks".

See how you go with the odd kart day, if you are a good driver then it will show.

Maybe start with a 998 on a Hillclimb? Sure you are aloud to do that at a young age.

As for Miglia, expect to spend over £15k for a ok car, which will be in top 20.

Cheaper if you go to Mini7 (998) but still a very expensive hobby.

I'm currently building a racer on a budget for mini sevens BUT in order to enter i have to pass my race licence. Find 3.5k to build the car, and then 3.5K to run it for the season and thats with no testing. i aim to be competeing in '08.

My advice is pass your test, do some track work then if you still keen get saving.
