i've dropped my engine back in yesterday and started it up for the first time today. It started with the first crank of the engine and ran smooth and happily straight away. I noticed that the red light on the clocks (the one to the left of the 2 pictured) was staying on when the engine was running. am i right in thinking that its the "no charge warning light" which would mean the alternator isn't charging the battery? and the light to the right is the oil pressure warning light which goes off as the engine reaches oil pressure? If it is a no charge waning light then i'm guessing i'll be looking at a replacement alternator? I have checked the running voltage across the battery and it's at 13.46V so i can't see a problem there.
any help would be much appreciated
thanks

yeah the red light means the altenator isnt charging the battery correctly. check the connectors are clean and on the altenator properly. a mod may need to move this topic into the technical part of the forum by the way!

first things first. double check you have put all the wires correctly on the starter motor solenoid. especially as you say you had 13V over the batteries.

remove the cover for the socket on the back of the alt and check the voltages at all 3 of the connectors at the back of the alt. if any one is low your alt needs cleaning refurbing or changing. there are some electrical companies that refurb these items.

i only know of one down in south wales. where i will be taking my old alt to see if they can fix that.

all the voltages are low, they're all no higher than 0.8v! all the wiring is correct on the solenoid and the connection on the alternator is sound
