Hi im lee, i have a 1979 mini clubman estate , it lives in the coventry area of the world, well nuneaton actually lol
It is white with a pair of black stripes up and over,
i love it to bits but its poorley !!!
For some reason when i lift the clutch the brake pressure drops? ???
we have changed the bios valve, but what i cant understand is that the two systems, ie brakes and clutch run indipendantly of one another,
yet like i say put it in gear , raise the cluth pedal to pull off and no brakes, yet pump the pedal a few times, and the pressure is there, but we dont always have time to pump the pedal four times before we can break do we !
any ideas?

Heylo Lee, welcome to TMF
I'm afraid I can't help with your problem, but just wanted to say I used to live in Coventry, & spent a lot of time in Nuneaton & Bedworth (or Beduff!) as a lot of my friends lived there

Can you pump up the brakes to get a stiff pedal when its not in gear, or even when the engine is off?

Is it still on drum brakes all round? Might be an idea to check the wheel cylinders. I bought a Mini once and the seller said that you had to "double click" the brakes. First press of the pedal got the pressure, second press they worked.
Wheel cylinders where knackered.

Check the pedal box, had a similar thing on an old mini and where there had been a leak it had rusted the two pedals to the spindal!

I would first check all the brake pistons around the car for any leaking, possibly bleed a bit of fluid through and see if there is any air in the system. When was the last time the system was bled?

Hey try and check the brake master cylinder. The rubbers might be worn.
I had the same problem and replacing the master cylinder solved it.
GOOD LUCK.

I'm sure they wont mind me putting you on to them, but try and get hold of Central Minis, they are VERY local to you and even though a little odd have some great mini 'sperts in there.... and it's always better to have a touchy feely ( oh I'm going to regret saying that ) rather than trying to describe symptoms...
but basically sounds like your brakes need an overhaul..

As Guessworks, said, speak to or join Central Minis.
