Hello,

I'm as my title surgests useless when it comes to things i don't know about mini engines!

My Question if anybody could please help is...... I'm now upgarding my 1380 engine to a 286 cam with 1.5 full roller rockers and i've been told it maybe usefull also to change the drive between the crank and cam upgrading to a duplex adjustable timing set.

I think i know that there is, two options, 1 the chain 2 the belt upgardes(looks like a moden engine belt system)

Does anybody know if either are any good? Should I bother at all?

I use it for drag racing at santa pod for fun so any help beating my friend up the strip will most usefull.

Thank you very much! :'(

Personally, if you want the most reliable and longlasting timing drive system, get a Kent Silent Chain or sometimes called a High Velocity chain.. It's fully adjustable, which you need to get your cam timing spot on, and does not stretch, and out last a belt drive system.

I've had on on my engine for 5 years, and at the last rebuild, showed pratically no wear ( that's 30k miles )

but at worst, fit a duplex...

If you have countersink bolts, the there needs to be a countersunk recess in the timing plate ( the bit which attaches to the engine ) to accept the countersink head, othewise it'll just stand proud as before... Only the timing plates on A series duplex equiped engines had this as std, as no A+ engines were ever fitted with a duplex set as stand the timing plates are flat ( no counter sink )

Will try and find a couple to show difference

Unless you have spacered drums, they'd be far too long.

I looked into one of those silent chains John, they look/sound like an excellent modification! I was ordering from Minispares and they were out of stock at the time, so I went for a Kent duplex vernier, but I wish I hadn't now as there was no rush after all! :w00t:
