I'm going to lubricate all locks and hinges including boot and bonnet.
Is it best to use WD40 or a spray on grease (a grease in an aerosol that solidifies after a couple of seconds contact with the air)?
I'm doing the job with all parts and hinges in situ.
Thanks for any advice

the spray on grease will be better than wd40 which is more off a penetrating oil than anything else

Will the grease attract and retain more dirt and dust?

Excuse me if im wrong but i thought that grease and oil are used where metal to metal contact is not wanted. A drill bit by nature needs to contact the item being cut, putting a lubricant in there wont help.
A cutting fluid is required in this instance, this keeps the cutting tool and its leading edge cool, thereby increasing its 'sharp' life.

I use Vaseline for door locks etc. I found it works great, doesnt attract dirt etc. But my car does ony 2000 miles per year.

I go with spray grease for the hinges and door latches but the lock cylinders themselves should be blown through with graphite powder.

I've used vaseline too (on the lock strikers that is, so it doesn't ruin your clothes), but just use 3 in 1 (or everyman) oil inside the actual lock barrels.
