Best Stg1 kit is from Somerford minis. Maniflow parts and real expert knoweledge to guide you through the installation if needed, custom needles, the lot. Aftermarket support is second to none.

What's going on with the 998 bashing? They're quick, very revvy, and not as rare to find as a decent 1275 that isn't tired of being thraped round an old council house estate!

I would choose the 998 over the 1275 as I enjoy the lively performance, quirkyness and revability that is harder to get from a std 1275, which are fairly sluggish from the start.

Also, first thing i would think about instead of power power power, would be a service, a rolling road tune up and get it handling perfect. A car that can't stick to the road is useless, but a car with well set up geometry and brakes make a SAFE basis for any power mods you get gooey eyed over!

My plan has always been to get the car set up as 'standard', and then worry about an upgrade. I'm not power crazy by any means, i'm a little cautious about taking a mini out onto roads today if there isn't enough power to keep up with local traffic (not planning on any motorway driving). The engine upgrades will come later (when finances allow), but is it worth upgrading a 998 to stage 1 or should I source a 1275? What are the likely differences in performace (not just power)?

Check out the minimag RR reports to give you an idea of power outputs, 1275 will have more torque though which is what you need in the real world and funnily enough neither of the mags give you this figure !

There isnt anything wrong with a 998 though, mines nippy enough for me at the moment.
