Hi
I just installed a 3 clock magnolia gauges (off rover) and found 1 problem regarding temp sender hole.
currently the temp gauge is not connected as I got the car with VDO gauge which I think is not working properly as well.
Now do I need a Rover temp sender unit for the magnolia gauge to work properly? anyone knows a part number?
I tried GTR102 and the tip is too big for the hole now I had a look in the hole for the sender and its quite clean and no rust or broken off thread/sender stuck in there.
Just the tapered look like wide diametre hole that goes in to a smaller diametre hole.
here's a pic (blurry), the lower unit is a VDO one
here's another similar size unit that wont fit in the hole in the head
engine is an A series 1275cc from 1100S
Anyone heard this problem before???
Cheers

dont know about part numbers but i wasnt aware that any of the head castings changed or used different sizes as far as temp senders go!! it shud fit, it will look a little too big but have u tried screwing it in and seeing what happens? kinda a going out on a limb idea there but as long as it goes in and doesnt leak it shud work!! how about taking one out of a mini or metro in a scrap yard if u think you have thw wrong part.

I tried already the tip is too big
I'm been told by a mini guru that it should fit as well
but I put a flashlight to see if there's broken stuff in the hole but its clean as factory look, like half the normal length thread and tapered hole that goes in for a smaller diametre sender unit tip.

hmm. try fitting one thats already been on a mini or metro then, thats all i can suggest. failing that drill out the hole on your cylinder head and see if u can get the nerw part to fit.

try and post a clear picture of your cylinder head/.

If it doesn't fit it's the wrong part, so i wouldn't bother drilling it out to take a part that's not meant to be in there anyway, just find the right part for the job.
Is it possible someone has already drilled the hole to take this thing?

the tip normally just sticks out into the water jacket under the thermostat housing
could you drill the head into the water jacket ?

I tried taking a pic but its too blurry
might drain the coolant 1st to get a better view as well
I've been advised to just drill the hole bigger, I'm just worried that I might wreck the threads by accidentally hitting it with the drill and if that happens its going to be a bigger problem...

can I just get an aftermarket VDO electrical temp sender and put a resistor or something on the wire to match my magnolia gauge?

see what resistance it runs on but i gues you could do that unless its too high!!
