If that were the case then it wouldnt run at all.
There is infact no automatic choke on injection cars but rather a cold start enrichment.
Give us some detailed information as best as you can describe and we shall see where the problem may lie.
Also answer these simple questions
Does it run normaly when warm?
What colour are the plugs after a run out in the car?
Is there any hesitation, missfiring or backfiring?

It could be any number of things so it would be worth getting a code reader on it as it could be a fault with the temp sender or MAP sensor problems. You could also have a faulty crank sensor too?
But when was it last serviced and treated to an oil change and air filter change and has the electrics (Spark Plugs, HT Leads, Dizzy Cap, Rotor Arm) been renewed lately too?

If the crank sensor is faulty, it wont run at all.
I suggest you read through this http://www.theminifo...showtopic=20533
Adjust the throttle cable, to start, make sure there are no air leaks including minor ones, check the ignition parts are in good order. The PTC heater may be faulty, this is in the bottom of the manifold and has a elecrical spade connection on it. If there is any sign of burning, melting, brittleness of the wire insulation, then the heater is most likely duff and wont help things.
I do suspect how ever that the idle air and stepper indexing is out of tune and will require tuning with a service tool.
One other thing to consider is, the coolant temp sensor may be reading wrong, A diagnostic check by some one who knows what they are doing is required for this.
There is more than one problem causing this.
