all i can suggest is dont run before you can walk. fit a 998 if it is free. if you start looking to upgrade in engine size it will cost a whle lot more time and money than you think.

plus if you go for a bigger engine it wil cost more on insurance.

go for the cheap freebie aqnd get it running then start building up a bigger engine

Brawly here at mates house.
The engine has not run in about 2 years and various parts have been removed to fix up the mini I have. But it ran absolutely fine last time it was used, and I imagine the block is perfectly serviceable. So what I am trying to say is out of the 2 blocks I am sure we could make one good one. Its just a case of removing it and getting it to your place. Unfortunately I have no engine crane but the last person to pick a mini engine from me put it in the passenger footwell of their mini. As I say I am not great, but will offer as much assistance as I can in removing and trying to help you fit the new engine. The clio is due a service tomorrow so I will go down the garage and have a look at what the mileage on mini says and take pics of the engine bay for you. You are also more than welcome to have a look at any other bits you may need as unfortunately the car is in a poorly state and is going to be scrapped :withstupid:. Anyway let me know what you think, the car aint going anywhere for the moment.

Thanks mate I apprieciate it loads.
I have a VW T4 van so could easily get it to mine, It's lifting it in there thats the problem. Is the block and head still on it and untouched? as both of mine have gone, And I take it the gasket set is alright?
When you say you don't really want the mini does that mean that I would be able to take an angle grinder or something to it if I had to to get it out easier? as that would definatly save time and help, because we did have a few problems doing mine.
I take it that it can't really be towed anywhere as it is?

the engine. You can just about lift one with a couple bits of wood and some fan belts (bit hack but it works) guessworks does it. Well lifts engines him and another bloke.

Hopeful he'll pop in and say how he does it. Then you can easily get it to the van.

If you find that engines got a few dud parts, pop a pm over. Not got much but I got a few bits. All need cleaning but meh,

It would be possible to weld that then skim the block down a little to make it smooth.

It wouldn't be worth it though for what it would cost.

Good luck with everything!

sorry for throwing the 1300 grenade in and walking away, it was only a suggestion in case you were thinking of doing it in near future. to get it all up and running you can use all the standard parts, i never ever had trouble with a 998 fuel pump on a 1300(unless it was already knackered). as fas as i know they are the same. everything else will fit and run. the only thing you may need is a needle change in the carb to up the fuelling a little. (possibly the same needle as the mini sprite ran)

im sure i will now get 100'000 people shouting at me and telling me it wont work. sorry IT WILL a stage 1 kit would be a lot better but all the standard 998 parts will get you mobile.

another 998 will be lots easier tho i should imagine so the choice is yours.

Just wondering are engines alright after being stood for a couple of years, would I need to check anything or anything?
Would they seize at all?

ah, theres a few thread on starting engines that have been stood.

You want to oil the bores of the engine as well as new fuel and make sure any fluids are properly topped up.

Theres probly a few other things. You'll have to do a search.
