also ......

power lead with inline fuse which will require a simple red-to-positive / black-to-negative connection to your battery.

Tip : Taking the power direct from the battery means less chance of interference from your ignition & wipers, and you can have the CB on regardless of what position your ignition key is in.

does this mean I need to wire power cables all the way to the boot ?

yer i would run it direct off the battery as you dont get as much static noise, i had mine going to the cig lighter socket and that was ok though.

just if u run from the batt jus remember to turn the set off with the engine because your battery will last 10 mins with a cb plugged into it with no power from the alternator,

if you mounted at the front its going to be more permanent, and in my experiance they are prone to vandals bending them or snapping them clean off, or even worse seing a cb antenna (or mount if anttena is removable,) and breaking in to look for the rig to nick even if its been removed, i would just suggest a good mag mount, most cb antennas will be able to accept a mag mount base, but the bigger the antenna the bigger the mount has to be because it will fall over

you could on the other hand use a gutter mount but that will leave two marks on the paint where you lock the screws down into place to hold the mount on, go google and take a look for cb shops and look at the pics of mounts and you will see the good and bad points about them thats why i use a mag mount that cost 25 quid from tandy lol

im making a call 2mo about good mag mobile antennas i will post up my results 2mo.

i found a bood lid mount for minis, but same as a gutter mount damage will be caused on the inside of the boot but you could pad the out side so no damage is caused

http://www.4x4cb.com...cfm?itemID=1086 this will support most mobile antennas so i will find out the best to use with a mag mount and the best to use with this type of mount.

or this type of mount in your hole at the front http://www.4x4cb.com....cfm?itemID=717 and then you could remove your antenna wen not in use, again this will accept most mobile antennas,(the mount is permanet)

i think its goin to be personal preference on this one, but i will find out the best antenna

mounted my aerial on a bracket that is attathed to the second bolt in form the offside rear bumper. look discreet when aerial is not in it and when in looks ok, aerial is black which matches the exterior trim of the vehicle. Range at present is approx nine to ten miles reckon i can better that thought when I set it up using an SWR meter. Will post a pic when I find out how to do it.

Bracket is fashined out of a steel bicycle spanner and hammerited, it does not mtter as it cant be seen.

Ive just buoght my cb from 4x4cb.com and i just got the magnetic airiel base.
Was going to get the gutter mounting BUT you have to make an "Earth" with it, meaning you have to scrape the paint awa to get a signal. You also have to do a SWA test (i think its aclled SWA, might be something else, basicalyl a teast to see where you will get the best reception).

If you need some help leave a message on the answerphone of 4x4cb.com they guy is AMAZINGLY helpful.

Only if it's significantly modified from standard, or it's using a diferent band (such as the AM bands or non UK frequencies), in which case you will then prolly require a HAM radio licence (certainly if its running on the non CB licenced frequencies). A standard CB no longer requires a licence for use. A "HAM" (radio amateur) licence, depending on licence class, allows the the use of modified radio transmitters and equiptment, Higher transmitting power levels, use of different comunication techniques, and also allows the use of a number of other frequency bands not accessable to the general public.

There are other radio tranceivers that are often refered to as "CB" radios, but are NOT actually CBs as they do not use the CB band, usually something like the radios used by security staff, workmen on buildings sites etc. These may or may not require a licence depending of the bands used and transmiting power.

But, as I said - a standard 'CB' radio does not require any form of licence now. :P

a swa meter can be fitted in line to your aerial and will give an indication of the set ups performance.... i used to be into CB's about 15 years ago and i hada great book on tuning the aerial... basically, depending on the SWA reading, you need to alter the length of the aerial to its optimum.

27Mhz band, 40 channels (additional 40 on the CEPT band - so 80 total), FM only, 4 watts MAX transmission output - for th UK.

I cant remember the exact frequency range for every channel, but a quick google (try "27/81 bandplan") should pull up the answers. :P
Only the FM band CB are legal in the UK, the older AM (American imports in the 70's - early 80's) are not part of the UK CB (Citizen Band) specification and can still land you in trouble for using them without apropriate licences to do so, but they are few and far between these days.
