a mini like yours comes with a single su carb, on yours its either a hif 38(thats 38mm ) or a hif 44(thats 44mm) its a fairly cheap carb to modify and tune and it gives good power and economy. the smaller 38mm carb will not restrict power until you get over 90bhp or so!! the bigger being good for 140bhp or so.
a stage 1 kit from minispares will set you back a fair bit but it gives you a new inlet and exhaust manifold, exhaust system, cone type air filter and carb needle and the brackets requitred to fit the stuff.
its usually worth a good couple of bhp when setup on a rolling road (i think they quote 20% more)
weber with spi?

so does anyone have any recomendations for stage 1 kits? i've seen them from minispares and huddersfield, with the latter being considerably cheaper! just wondering if the added expense is worth it?

go with mini spares
it will be a proper kit, no silly sized exhaust, will come with all the brackets and a new needle
