I thin you can probably put it back if you are very lucky, but you will probable have to buy a new choke.

ohhh im soooo stressed no-one seems to understand what im saying its not just a matter of the wire out of the rubber housing theres another part to it which wont feed the wire through as much as ive tried before i oulled the choke cable through there was a plastic rubber on the metal surround that the choke metal bit sild in and out of this turned out to be some sort of housing which the choke cable run through and held the rubber housing to the cable from its rear end when i try to phush the wire through the opening it goes so far and stops here's some pics of the 2 pices concerned

The bit that's blocking it is a choke warning lamp switch, because your choke cable is not from a Mini. That does make it harder to reinstate the cable, and it means the cable is more likely to be frayed when it does go through. They never really work properly again once they've been apart like this sadly but you can get it back in and have some use from it. Ideally, get a proper Mini choke cable!

thanks mate that explaines why i can not find an exact replica of my existing cable there is a ratchet(witch has the same housing as the one i have but differnt knob cooper stlye) the one that goes on the 988 year to 1989 has the same knob as i have but has metal housing this one appers to match my heater cable

can you advise which one i should get :withstupid: i think it might be the lock and twist one which has the same pic on it as the one i have

Depends on your switch panel really as there are two different end types. If the hole in the switch panel is large and D shaped with the cable retained by a clip then you need to use the ratchet type as the other won't fit. If the hole is the same as the heater cable hole with the cable held by a large nut then you need the earlier twist type. It's not just a question of changing the switch panel to change from one to the other as the hole is the same in the panel bracket which would also need changing. Brackets aren't available though for some reason. You pretty much need to stick with whatever type will fit your panel.

i have the d shape hole all the ratchet types i have looked at dont have the same rubber handle with the triangle diagram on but a flatter rounded handle which wont match the heater handle and i think will look odd do you know i think someone might have put a different handle on the ratchet type to match as i cant find one the same.

this?

if the choke cable you have now isn't the original then there is no way and no point intrying to find one the same
