Yo,
I'm having a slow afternoon while I should be doing my network and cisco assigments and I tought I'd ask this,
Head question. Which is better (for a 998) a 12g295 or a 1275 engine head.
Both (to me) seem similar in that they have similar looking combustion chambers but I was wondering which is better for performance. I mean over all. Not talking about how easy they are to install but what improvment to performace would be achived with either one on a 998.
Ta for any light on the topic.

hmm, a 1300 head has bigger valve potential. a 12g296 will be easier (i know u said not to mention) but with a 998 you wont see much difference between the 2 til u do further mods. the cam holds you back more.

yeah was thinking that. But I got 2 998head in the garage and the more I look at the chamber and port size them more I fell it's chocking El Gordo of power.

aye but a 12g295 head is a pain to get hold of. 1275 seems a little more avalible but not much.

true but it aint that hard to get hold of and the 1275 head is alot more involved to be honest

When you look at the costs involved, not just in buying the head but in all the other work that needs doing, money wise there isnt much between the two really.
I've been looking at doing a 940 for a while now and the best route seems to be to get a donor 998 (free or peanut money) and strip it, get the block sorted and pocketed, build it back up with choice of cam and then swap them over.
By doing this you have a good engine and you get the bonus of doing the cam at the same time
You could always pocket the block in situ of course and you could even do the cam with the block in the engine but might as well do it properly

Depends on condition but one that is in pretty much 'bolt on' condition is going to be about £100 I guess, maybe a bit more depending on how many are about at the time.
Check if its skimmed too as this will affect the value of it and restrict your market somewhat depending on whats been taken off it.
