Unleaded Metro engine running 9.4 CR...

The piston numbers on the top of stock pistons are unfortunately no very well referenced, so maybe this is the beginnings of another FAQ

The numbers on the top of these I have are 21962 G7 P24, so here's hoping the rings fit ;)

These pistons are out of a 12HD09 engine, which is an older leaded metro engine with a 9.75 CR

The bit to check will be the oil control ring land, it's either 3mm or 4mm depending on the piston type, but all A+ 1275 stock pistons use the same compression rings, it's only the older A series 1275's which use a different width ( and number of ) compression rings.

If they do happen to be the wrong oil scraper size, all may not be lost... as the scraper rings are the more important part, so you could possibly use the spacer and spring from your original rings and the scrapers from your new set..

just to be 100% sure and for future reference ill take the rings into work with me after and mic them. There was a ridge in the top ring. is this from wear or is it meant to be there?

it's meant to be there, if it's a ridge all the way round the circumference on one side... and should be facing down... your new rings may or may not have this, but you will see that on the ring is will say TOP on one side...

After being delayed for 2 weeks trying to order a set of stock rings for my 12A2LK70 MPI motor, I was told by MiniSpares that they do not have them in stock.

So after checking ring specs with Ultra parts. I sent this email to Mini Spares.

Do you have these rings in stock and are the specs listed correct?

PISTON RING SET FOR 21253 PISTON

Price £40.93 exc vat
£48.09 inc vat
For: Classic Mini
Part No. R41570-00
Description
compression ring sizes are .0591" and oil ring .1181" on p21253 pistons
giving 9.7cr on 1275cc

This was the reply

Specs are correct, plenty in

Cheers

This was back in November.
So I know of a couple guys there that knew the parts were avail. Maybe they just didn't anotate it in their system!!

So maybe we need to start a parts interchange FAQ?

I find the Ultraparts VERY useful, also managed to get some rings for my 74mm pistons, the rings arrived next day, even though I only ordered them in the afternoon the day before...

Then as mentioned,
Just order part # Part No. R41570-00

They are the same I just used and come with the 1 piece oil ring.

my piston rings arrived this morning, nice fast delivery from minispares.

the oil ring on the new set is different to my old set however.

the rings are the same size but the oil ring had 2 thin rings either side of the chain likering, where the new ones don't have the 2 thin rings but one that goes round the chain like ring.

are they ok to use?

Yep, as Bill said, the oil scraper is a single ring, as opposed to the older multi ring design..

Just be careful putting them on !
