i have a couple HS carbs and one HIF carb.
i am not sure which HS carbs i have i.e. 2, 4 or 6 etc.
i am not sure which HIF carb i have either.
i want to put the best one back into my mini.
can anyone tell me which is better and how to identify the various types.
i would like to know which is best to the worst in a list if possible.
thanks

The number after the letters on the HS series relates to the number of 1/8ths of an inch above 1" the carb throat diameter is, so a HS2 will be 1 1/4", a HS4 1 1/2 " etc

Is this for an 850 or what!?>
twins will give a slightly better throttle response, but for ease of installations and to cure fuel starvation on hard corners.... i'd whack the HIF... but if it's a boggo 850 a single HS4 will be good or twin Hs2's would be fun.

i love my 850!
i will improve in a little time.
so i guess u guys say twin HS2, HS6 and HIF44 for bigger racing type engines and a single HS4 or HIF38 for my little 850.
so a single HS2 is not advisable?
it currently has the HIF on it? (i assume 38)
which is better HS or HIF?
should i just service this one and leave it on or replace with the HS?

I love 850's, it's just that you didn't specify what engine it was for, any mods... what condition.
I's stick with the HIF38 then mate, it's more than adequate for the 850, 38's are good for up to around 120bhp ish if i remember corectly...

the engine looks stock.
the previous owner didnt have a fuel filter on the thing.
ran it a few times without noticing and now it dosent want to start. (at least its home)
we (my dad and i) decided to service the carb and put in a fuel filter, since spark is good an we are getting petrol to the carb.
so thats why i am asking all of this since it has to come off anyway.

Hope this sways your decision! Its much better having full acceleration going round corners!!

Hif all the way. noticed quite a difference and they a hell of alot easier to adjust when on car. i did this a while back and found it alot more beneficial. The only problem i had was bulkhead clearance, but i used the spacer that was on my hs4. you can get a smaller spacer from minispares. My gives the bulkhead a bit of a thump if i change gear in anger!

did the measurements and i found out that i have two HS4's (1 old and 1 relatively new) and a HIF38.
we would be using the HIF due to the recommendations that i got from u guys.
thanks for the help fellow mini people!

I would have said that a 1.1/2" carb on an 850 would be a little over the top.... Think you may be better sticking with the HS2
hmmm.....
i don't have that option right now (i have 2 HS4's and a HIF38) but i would definately consider the option if i am able to get 1, now that i read your post.
