i'm currently in the process of removing as much rust as i can from my mini before it gets resprayed and i have some rust under the corner of my windscreen that can be seen in the attached picture. Now i've been looking on minispares and i've seen this panel here: http://www.minispare....aspx?pid=35275

would this solve the problem i currently have and also how easy are they to fit?
what does fitting involve?

i have a welder and all the necessary kit to do it but as i've never fitted it before i've no idea how hard it will be.

any help would be much appreciated.
thanks

To put the whole panel in you need to take the wing off too, and the windscreen out.

You might get away with patching the top part of the panel in.... but I bet once you start cutting you'll find more rot further down.

Get all the paint and rust and rot of the scuttle section... see how far it goes first.

To replace the whole section of the scuttle the wing has to come off mate, no ifs or buts I'm sorry. You will have a VERY hard time getting it on with the wing still there.

if you're lucky the rot has not extended down to the base of the scuttle and ius just on the windscreen surround, in which case you can just cut it out, and make a patch from the the new repair panel to go in.

you can bet your bottom dollar the flitch panel will be rotten too.... you may be able to confrim that by checking where the air vents come through the bulk head..... i'f you have the tools, and the know how you may as well do it once and properly.

In fact he wings are NOT welded to the scuttle, and at no point should be..

The reason you will need to remove the wing is that the scuttle forms a foot for the wing to butt against and secondly for access as you'll also need to replace the closing panel which forms the enclosed end of the scuttle, and this can only be done from inside the wheel arch..

As biggav says, the top of the fitch panel is probably also rotted... here's a picture of what it'll probably look like (well worst case scenario)

Have to say guessworks that the tops of the wings are usually spot welded on to the scuttle.
