can select gear with stick but drive shafts go round???

i put my drive shafts on yesterday and we selected a gear to stop the shafts spinning as we tightened the castle nut up but the driveshafts stil went round ive only got 1 driveshaft on at the mo that wont make a difference will it.. does anyone know what it may be? help...

Yeah, you need both and one wheel on the floor...nothing to worry about

really? because i put the cv pot in and it still went round.. are u absolutly sure? please be sure.lol i have spent 2 years nearly buildin it and im poo scared i have to take the engine out again.lol

This is normal, if you leave it in gear and spin one wheel the other wheel (or pot joint if that is all that is connected) will spin in the opposite direction.

Once both driveshafts are in and one wheel is on the floor you shouldn't have a problem

It's the way a dif works. It send power to the wheel with least grip.

It's more of an unfortunate side effect of having to have a diff really. The diff actually works by allowing the wheels to not shred the tyres and shatter the gearbox every time you go around a corner.

ps, you wont tighten up the castle nut to the specified torque with only the car in gear, as all you'll end up doing it turning the engine over...

Best thing to do is get someone to put their foor on the brake.

you could put a strong bar through the studs, (wheel off obviousy), the bar resting on the floor, and then do it up

Thats true, but it does have to be a very strong bar or you will end up with something like this! And you have to worry about damaging the threads on the studs..Attached File  10_01_07_1037.jpg   281.16K   3 downloads
