My hazards are playing up, when I put the hazards on only the left side flahes like if I were indicating left. One problem that I know of is that one of the wires has rubbed on a bit of metal and has broke but I've tried joining the wires together and doesn't changed anything, its the top left wire if you look at the block with the 2 at the bottom and the grouped 4 at the top. Also I have to hold the switch in the middle for them to flash.

It's a 1980 Clubman Estate by the way.

Changing the flasher unit won't help. If the left side is flashing, the unit is working (although they should be flashing very fast). I'm going to say try the switch too. Do the indicators work properly?

it cant be the switch if one side works. The switch will only have 1 output for the indicator circuit which will split later on, supplying the various bulbs. It wont have terminals for each bulb indivudually, so there must be a break in the circuit somewhere further down

The problem here is with the hazards, not the indicators. And it affects one side, not one bulb. Most likely culpret is definitely the hazards switch or its connector block, IF the indicators work properly on the right.

top 2 terminals cut out the indicators so u can use both at the same time, the bottom 4 are left inducators, right indicators, an input from the flasher relay and the other feeds the warning light in the switch!

It's the only way to do it. Hazard switches are always pretty complex unless the system is controlled by a body ECU. When you press the switch it has to connect both sides of the indicator circuit together which obviously can't be connected together normally. It also has to change over the power to the flasher unit from ignition only to constant (or activate a second flasher unit on earlier systems) and connect in the dash repeater, all at the same time.

Cheers for the replies, tried another switch but no luck. Does anyone know what the feed for the right indicators is in the 4 terminals that are grouped together? Indicators work fine when hazards are off and blinker doesn't flash any faster when the hazard switch is on and left side is flashing.

Would have replied sooner but this is the first time I've been able to get on.

Another thing, my hazards only work with the ignition on. It's not supposed to be like that is it but it must have passed its MOT like that last year.

You have some major wiring issues there. Sounds like it's been botched in the past. Try following the haynes WD through starting with the hazard circuit. The hazard circuit does not run through any fuses in the fusebox, there is a line fuse typically behind the carb which feeds the hazard flasher, then outputs to the hazard switch, which switches out to the lamps. When the hazard switch is (on) it also disconnects the feed (separate circuit) to the indicator stalk from the indicator flasher unit.

In summary

Circuit 1 - Hazards
Battery > Line fuse > Hazard Flasher > Hazard Switch > Lamps (L&R)

Circuit 2 - Indicators
Battery > Fuse Box > Indicator Flasher > Hazard Switch > Indicator Switch > Selected L or R Lamps

green/white is right, green/red is left as far as if i remember my mini wiring!! there is a join or 2 in that loom so it could be a break!
