while i have been rewiring parts of my car, i found out what the yellow relay on the right is, the ignition switch relay which feeds into the starter solenoid ;) Haynes can be confusing when you are working with parts from 2 wiring diagrams

fek i was thinking the one on the left was the start one but thats on earlier cars when they first brought out the pre-engaged starter!

easiest thing if u tell us the wire colours i think.

Like Fikus I though the starter relay was on the left, by the brake servo. It was there on earlier looms and I suppose I just thought they'd leave it there as it seems a bit odd to move it further away from what it's controlling and what it's controlled by. Is your car injection Robson? As they have a seperate sub-loom for the injection systems and the relay you are talking about could be the immobiliser relay since the alarm ECU is right behind that relay bracket.

Injection have two relays on the bulkhead, one on the left is the Lambda sensor heater , the one on the right is the electric fan.

The Lambda sensor heater relay is part of the engine loom, the fan relay is part of the front 'body' loom.

Just looking for the info so i'll be posting back in a minut

Here you go, I think the only reason these yellow ones are are used is for ignition OFF. They turn the fan off when the key is turned to the off position and lights etc.

And the dim dip

My lights etc work fine without these.

the one on the right is the start relay, white/pink is faded white/red from the starter switch, brown is permanent live i believe and brown/red goes to the solenoid on the starter motor.

from memory the left hand one is the indicators disconnect when the ignition is off.

the dim dip relay isnt essential, all works without it i believe, just u wont have very good sidelights at the front as is switches in the resistor thats stashed on the crossmember behind ur rad that lights up the headlights half way when the ignition is on. not sure if its a legal requirment. all modern cars have them so look into that.
