I have seen alot of mk1, mk2 and mk3 parts around but not many for mk5 which is what my Mini is. I was just wondering is this because many of the parts for mk3 are also compatible with mk5 or sommit?

Pleas help getting confused

Yes.

Generally, the only bits that might be different would be engine parts.

The main differences between Mk 3,4,5,6 and 7 are trim, electrical, engine & gearbox, brakes and clutch. The bodies are largely the same. There are some differences to the bulkhead and door pressings, and some different wiring and pipe clips and grommet holes and stuff but they are all relatlvely minor changes. The majority of panels Mk3 on are interchangeable or easily adaptable. The reason all the companies list different parts for Mk1/2 is that it takes quite a lot of work to adapt the majority of their parts to later cars, or it simply can't be done. With things like the windscreens being different sizes and the doors being very different shapes it is hard to adapt things to fit.

The exception is subframes and their mountings. From Mk3 to 4 the arrangement for mounting the subframes changed dramatically, and alterations from one to the other would be very complicated.
