I've just taken the engine out of my Clubman and reckon now might be a good time to fit a 5 speed gearbox. Money is limited so I'm looking for a solid second hand unit, possibly from a scrapped/cheap donor vehicle.

Were any later Minis ever made with 5 speed boxes? Also I'm assuming some Metros were, but which models/years should I be looking at? Are there any other cars that would have a suitable box?

Thanks

Will

rover never fitted a 5 speed box to any a series engine but you could buy one off jack knight, minisport, mini spares, KAD etc

Fifth gear is not realy fith gear, its overdrive. Unless you can afford the KAD straight cut five speed dog box, which is a true one to one fifth gear.

The main problem with the overdrive five speed gearboxes are that the owners of said gear boxes try to accelerate in fifth gear, this puts huge stresses on the gear train and eventualy results in premature failure. The more powerfull the engine the quicker it will fail when used like that.

Are you taking note; Bungle ;D :w00t:* :-

In which case you may as well just fit a 2.9 or 3.1 FD!

The phrase 'money is limited' doesn't really go well with a 5 speed gearbox for a Mini.
