All it really takes is 1 wire with clips on each end.
Run it from the battery post side of the solenoid to the + side of the coil. The - side of the coil goes to the distr.

If it has a ballast then you should hook the jumper to the post of the ballast farthest away from the coil.
But it will run either way.

Then just make sure it's in neutral and hit the button on the solenoid or jump it from the batt side to the small terminal.

If you hold the coil wire close to the block while cranking you will know if there is spark!!

All you need to get the engine running is power to the coil, earth back to the battery from the block and some way to start it. If you are starting it with the starter then use the solenoid as above. If however there is an alternator fitted and you intend to run it for any length of time then if the alternator is not hooked up you could damage it severely. To hook the alternator up the three terminals on it need to run back to the battery. The two large terminals can be joined together and use one cable but the small one should ideally be kept as a seperate cable running to the battery. You can put a bulb in this cable if you like (it will be the no-charge lamp) but you don't have to. The alternative would be to remove the alternator but then you need to get the water pump running, you will need a short drive belt from something. Obviously running without an alternator it can only run until the battery runs flat.
