was on the way to college today and i was going about 70 and i lifted off the accerator but it didnt come up so i had to brake while acclerating full wak. tunred the engine off in the end and kicked the pedal and it came back up, do i just need to lube up the throttle on the carb because theres no obstructions to the pedal itself.

lightly oil the carb springs and cables <basically all moving parts on the outside>, And lightly oil the accelerator pedal hinge...... then pump the pedal a bit to work it in etc.

then come bakc on here and say what's happening.

Quite likely that the throttle cable is worn or has dirt in, just have a good inspection when you lube it up.

Have you fitted a stage one kit recently ? Could be catching on the alloy inlet if the above dont solve it :D

Next Time If This Happens, Pull Over To A Safe Place (Hardshoulder) Dump The Clutch, Turn The Key Back Two Clicks And Brake Hard...

But Obviously This Is Only To Be Done In Extreme Cases.

mine does the same, Carb edition...

but its funny all summer no problems, just when the winter and them freeeeezing morning roll in!! happened to me the day before yesterday.

I changed the throttle cable last year and this problem came back, i will be greasing up the springs and stuff around the carb at the week end...

My mechanic told me it could be my G-KAT electricals...

Where did you get that from for £2 Jimmy? Was that just the inner or outer as well?

Edit: Ah, i guess you have an HS carb, why are throttle cables for HIF's 3 times more?

i had my throttle cable stick as well at the weekend, fortunatly for me i realised it was getting stuck while the car was on the drive way. ( could have been nasty with 180bhp out of my control ... )

anyway i found the problem to be not the moving parts of the pedal etc etc, but the cable had moved and was now touching the hot exhaust. this melted the outer casing ( which had bled inside to the actual cable). so the car drove fine while everything was hot, but of course when it had all cooled down and the melted plastic had gone hard - the cable wouldnt move properly. :/

just something else for people to think of!
