What about a vw polo g40 engine? Plenty of them reach 200 bhp and more and they're a fair bit more reliable than the renault lumps.

its all to do with the displacement for every complete turn of the crank, hence why some people say 1.3 and some 2.6

but, you can't pay for the lower tax band with an rx7 twin turbo!

so the dvla must consider it a 2.6!

1st gen rx7 had a 12a rotary, which was 1.2L (13b was 1.3, and the 20b was 2.0L)

it was actually 114cc, and gave out approx 114Bhp

AFAIK, the capacity is doubled, to make it in-line with the amount of Bhp that piston engines produce, (when used in racing) and due to their highly innefficient design, the amount of emmisions as well (for the DVLA)

what were you thinking of using for the suspension? A chopped around mini subframe, or modifying the renault subby?

personally i wouldn't bother. there nippy motors when running fine but the head gaskets are always going on them, personally i would put the 4EFTE in from the starlet turbo. but its up2u. good luck with it if you plan to go with it.

what about peugot 206 gti engines - too big? plenty available and quite cheap for 170-180bhp. some are six speed also I think.

looks like a nice compact unit................

A 106 gti engine would be good probably a little smaller than the 206
