Hi all,

Tried to perform a search for the question i have but doesnt seem to have been discussed.

I am going to buy a mini and would like to know what peoples opinions are on the following questions.

1: Would you stick with the a series engine and bore it out and tune it up as much as possible?

2: If so are they reliable?

3: If not is the hayabusa engine the very best for the mini?

4: If not what is?

5: What is the best engine/ wheel size configuration for handling?

6: I am prepared to spend alot of money and really want the ULTIMATE mini. I want it to look exactly the same as an original but have the running gear and engine etc to make it the very best package. I only need 2 seats so am flexible at losing the rwar seats. What would be your ultimate mini?

Many Thanks for anyone who answers this for me and i hope to have my ULTIMATE MINI gracing these forums in the very near future.

Matt

Hi Matt..
I'll do my best to answer from my own point of view... bearing in mind everyones different....

1: Would you stick with the a series engine and bore it out and tune it up as much as possible?
Possibly... but you'd be looking at rebuilding every few thousand miles
2: If so are they reliable?
yes... if rebuilt/checked regularly depends what you want the car for.. track/drag racing or fast road
3: If not is the hayabusa engine the very best for the mini?
Erm... depends what you mean by best...
4: If not what is?
Honda Vtec would be better for day to day and wouldn't require as much fannying around with.
5: What is the best engine/ wheel size configuration for handling
again depends what you are looking for... some people swear by skinny 10's as the best handling... but big fat 13's look more Racy

6: I am prepared to spend alot of money and really want the ULTIMATE mini. I want it to look exactly the same as an original but have the running gear and engine etc to make it the very best package. I only need 2 seats so am flexible at losing the rwar seats. What would be your ultimate mini?

Rear wheel drive honda Vtec. Jammy's building one at the moment... there are also loads of hayabus'a and R1s about on here... if you are serious about it then contact Chris at Zcars and go out for a spin.... take a cheque book with you though, you'll be hooked.

Thanks Jesus,

I am really after the ULTIMATE ROAD CAR!

I have read about the vtec but in a magazine it said the first 2 gears were redundant , so it was essentially a 4 speed .

I really want the perfect car with loads of power , amazing handling , amazing interior , amazing braking , and amazing paint job.

I think i have decided what im going to do.

A complete rebuild , so new panels , awesome paint job. Hayabusa z cars conversion , but with dynamat on all panels , so it is very quiet , and some sort of soundproofing so it is as quiet as a normal engine when you are in the car but with the awesome power of the hayabusa.

Also going to turbo it with holeshot turbo upto about 400bhp.

I am also going to put an in car pc in so i have full internet access when connected to my phone via 3g.

i think that will be my ULTIMATE MINI!!

Depends on your budget and whether you want black and white plates or not?

Welcome to TMF....
Personally I would go for the V-Tec, I would have said it would be more useable as a regular car... from what I have read Z-Cars are very enjoyable and very very fast, but soo noisy! Probably not the most comfortable ride either, not that I've ever been in one.
And from what you've said, you're not just after a fast car, you're after a fast car that is "luxury" as well.... same as me really but you have money already hah!
So I'm voting V-Tec, as you get the power without killing yourself just revving the engine... although I'm not the best person to ask!
Just my humble opinion, hope I helped.

You can buy turn-keys from Zcars. But the majority of people just buy the kits and fit it all together themselves, there must be some pride in that surely.

What you could do if you mech-minded to buy an engine that fits then build a frame yourself. A good example of this is Olive by ed4ran, click here to read all about it.
