thanks for all the help so far managed to get today off college so sanded down the bonnet with 1200 grit cause it was only a thin covering of filler primer. then i primed it and the spray can ran out on the last corner! ive been down to halfords now and bought yet another can! but its too damp to finish off now ill have to do it on sunday!.

as for the repainting of my door!!!! well disaster dosent come close!! i tried roller painting it wich turned out worse than if you had sent the door sliding up the road for an hour!!!! was too thick and dried way too fast!!!! and the orange peel well!!!!!!!!!

A F**KING NIGHTMARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

found out today that i can spray alot better with a rattle can than an air brush or spray gun!
the front end of my mini is now orgasmic!!!!! and i havent flatted, laqured or polished it yet!!!!!!!!!! AWSOME!!!!!

lol still hope to be on the road by the 3rd of march though!

all the best phil. :P

:withstupid: should have put more thinners in then.

1200 grit flatting, I'd worried that the 1200 was too fine and that the surface below will be too smooth now for the colour to adhere properly, but I hope it works out mate, get some pics up!! :D

This is strange... You talk of cracking due to cold, blistering due to the moisture and poor stick due to the weather but i have had no problem with any of these. I Have been spraying my car in the conservatory with all windows and door open so it's freezing cold but havn't experienced any problems with the weather, maybe your coat was too thick? Or as Retro said you didn't de-grease properlly?

Meh, im no expert but it seems you did everything you needed to, did you give each coat a good amount of time to dry? I try to leave 24 hours despite wanting my car finished asap.

*Edit, i've only just read the second page :( Your finish looks ace pal, like the sheet pinned to the wall; looks like my spraying environment!

hi guys

to be honest with you i have know idea what laquer i used its from halfords in a rattle can! hehe

yea the sheet on the wall is called 'PHILS SPRAY BOOTH!' hehe

really really really pleased with the bonnet thats after spraying with the air gun on the compressor pukka finish i think hehe.

to be honest i dont let it dry between coats it seams to touch dry really fast so i just do one area and move onto the next then back over that area again. bad i know but i seam to get a good finish doing it so ill carry on lol.

next week is half term off college so i am gona really crack on with the mini she should be looking beautiful by next friday but still got quite alot to do and il'l keep you all posted with text and pics! hehe

as you can see on that pic with me hold the grille and bumper in, the front valance is grey i was going to paint the front and rear valance's and the sills gloss black how do you reckon this will look??

thanks and all the best phil.  :( :P  :) :) :w00t:

Looking at the first pic of your aint and what you described, I would have said the paint is reacting or contaminated.

You have got there now, but it is essential to clean down the panle properly and if your not sure what paint is underneath you get somethg called barcoat, it is like a primer, prep the bonnet/panel, nd spray barcoat (this stops any reactions)
then prime and paint as normal.

Also just as a seperate note, sanding with 1200 before painting is risky, as mentioned above this can give you adhesion problems as the surface is to smooth..
think about spray painting on glass, once one bit peels it starts flaking off..

general rule (always exceptions to this)
p600 then prime
p800 then spray top coat..

good job though...

well done.. you cant beat that sense of satisfaction can you..

I am about to renew the whole front end on my cooper starting sunday
panels arrived today, to will strip it and hopefully have it back together and painted for tuesday

hi again!

a new update sorry i havent been on for a couple of days been working my danglies off!!

im now on half term and so i have a week to get the car up to m.o.t standard!!! today (tues) has been the most productive day yet!! managed to get the following done:

paint boot
flatt boot
laquer boot
laquer bonnet
sand down front end
laquer front end
pollish front end (is completley breathtaking!!!!)
fill scuttle
sand scuttle
primed scuttle
cooked myself toasted cheese and bacon sandwich with beans on the side! ( yum yum!!)
filed my new passenger door!! ( fairly good nick from a scrappy £25! off a clubman)
filed rear quater after the hours of panel beating (5x)!!
sanded rear quarter (5x)!!

so all in all a productive day i think! ill post pics asap!! all laquerd parts are currently sitting in the lounge to harden properly so the front room looks like a mini pannels shop!! HEHE

Very good, never neglect the inner man. At least I'm good at that bit :( With a good mug of tea, milk & 2 shoogs, I hope?

*PS Drink hot drinks with fried or other fatty foods -- stops the fat congealing in your innards. Olde Teapot's tip for the day*
