hey guys
ive just bought a full new sound system, consisting of a sony cd/mp3 headunit, a set of db 6x9s in the back, and a set of legacy 4'' 2way speakers for the front
i know its not exactly top notch gear, but i was on a tight budget
the question is about fitting
as you all probanly know, the mini wiring isnt great at teh best of times, and my radio wiring is so bodged its a joke
so where would i start with fitting it?
i know ill be using new speaker cable front and rear, so im basicly starting with a 12v feed
where do i go from there?
is fitting the sterio a big job? what connectors will i need? and is it something i can take on myself? im fine with all mechanical aspects of the mini, but ive never really delved into electrics before
any help or advice would be great
thanks
nick

you need a spade connector to the 'always on' fuse providing 12v to your live and store wires on headunit. Connect the earth to the chassis, i run mine under the dash and into the engine bay.

Thats ya power done, speakers have 2 cables each, shud be a sticker on the headunit explaining which colours are front n bk, left n right.

If theres already wiring in, i would test the wires to see what there for.

You will need a spade connector to the fuse box, and the speakers wires etc, should be fine in a connector block. thats how mine is and it works fine.

yea, but the problem is, the head unit has a very neat compact connector block, into which all the wires go, it then has two seperate plugs that are obviously made to plug into a loom of some sort :S
if it were simply a coloured wire for each speaker, id be sorted, but its these plugs that confuse me....

ah right. i chopped my plug off.

You need to find the correct plug from a motor factors like halfords.

you then look at the plug on the radio and wire the speakers and power into the plug u bought. SLot em together and volia.

It's called an ISO connector, and yep, Jordie's right, get it from Halfords, it'll cost around a tenner.

if you need to wire in a car hifi from scratch youll need some bullet connectors male and female (makes it easier to put together, spades tend to be sticky), and a 10.99 ISO connector from halfords or any other car audio retailer, this ISO connector is a single male ended one, with all the wires connected that you need to connect up to the car, 8 for the speakers, 3 for the ignition and power.
