Hey,

My bonnet's always looked odd, the bonnet is higher than than the grille surounds and doesn't ly fluss. After much struggling with it, taking it on n off and moving the grille about I left reluctantly left it alone. However I was looking in MiniSport mag at the body panels section and they have five differen types of bonnet -

mk1 59 - 67 / mk2 67 - 70 / 70 - 96 / 97 only / 97 - 00 .

My little mini is a P reg, so that's 97. Just wondering if anyone knows the difference for the 97 only one, as I'm thinking if it migh be a the wrong bonnet on me car?

thanks

Might be a misprint because it's not showing a 1997 only bonnet on their website. Mind you they claim that the 1997 onwards Twin-Point/MPi bonnet is unavailable at present though (Part number: BKA360070),

If yours is a "P" reg then it's either late 1996 or early 1997.

Hiya mate,

Definately not a misprint, just checked it out on their website - select the drop down list for type on the bonnet page.

Yeah, mine is tecknically a 1996 but thought I'd check it as when ever I list my car on insurance or other services they always call P reg mini as 97.

not sure but it's an internal release on my mini. I thought that it was only older mini's that had the external release, does anyone one know when it changed over?

I believe all Minis got internal bonnet release catches around 1993?

Anyway from Mini Sports listing, it seems that they are out of stock on the genuine 97 onwards MPi bonnet. So if you own a Twin-Point/MPi Mini with a front mounted radiator, then this is the type of bonnet you'd need.

But if you click on the other bonnet link (genuine steel bonnet), then it gives you the option of choosing all the different types of bonnet fitted to Minis up to the late 1996 (or 1997 as most people call it) introduction of the Twin-Point/MPi Mini.

Here's the pages I was looking at:-

Bonnet Assembly Steel (non Twin-Point/MPi), Mini Sport Link

And here's the later 1997 on Twin-Point/MPi bonnet that their out of stock with:-

1997 onwards bonnet, Mini Sport Link

So I don't know what other bonnet type you're talking about mate?

i know that by the time they moved the radiator to the front of the engine bay, the safety catch on the bonnet had been moved to a position just to the left of the centre line when looking from the front.

im making an educated guess by saying it "was" moved to keep it away from the front mounted rad, which would make the bonnets date specific to 1997 onwards.

can you make any adjustments to the plunger ???

surly this mould make the bonnet sit lower at the front ???
